Galactic Guardians Release

So it’s release day for Galactic Guardians, HeroClix’s newest set, and I’ve got to admit, I’m excited! It’s a galactic themed set, and I’ve always liked Marvel’s galactic characters. I’ve got some Amazon gift cards piled up, so I’ve been watching their site like a hawk, and they finally offered a few boosters. I ordered 3 right away!

I was just looking through some of the figs this set offers, and there are a lot of really neat ones. It seems to be a pretty powerful set, too, as to be expected from characters who can travel the universe. I’m a guy who likes to make teams, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for some specific pulls.

The first figs I noticed were characters from the Infinity Watch and the Heralds of Galactus. The Heralds and the entire Galactus mythos completely rocks, but first I’ll start with the Infinity Watch.

The Hammer of Thor set brought us Pip the Troll and Moondragon, and now we can nicely finish up the Infinity Watch with Adam Warlock, Gamora and Drax. I really dig Drax, both his old and new incarnation, and his sculpt is really slick.

Then we have the Heralds of Galactus. Now, I’ve promised myself I would try not to get into the whole collector aspect of this hobby. I’d just try to get my hands on the figs that are interesting to me and play and trade them. The Heralds, and even that awesome colossal Galactus fig, are another story.

You can go back to the old Avengers set, and there are some LE Heralds to be found there. There’s a nice Terrax the Tamer, Stardust, and Firelord. Hammer of Thor again brought us Air-Walker, so there’s four Heralds already. The Galactic Guardians set will really allow us to field an impressive team of Heralds.

Silver Surfer is the obvious one. The sculpt is very nice and he seems appropriately powerful for being the favored Herald. There’s several others, though, like Red Shift, Morg and Fallen One. Morg is a favorite of mine. I always liked the idea of a ruthless herald, and then Fallen One is the first herald I believe. Red Shift will apparently have a power that allows him to teleport an enemy away after slashing them with his sword.

So I’m trying to get my hands on Galactus and as many Heralds as I can. It would be fun to throw them all on a team together and see an army of heroes and villains unite to take them down. My girlfriend had the idea of pitting all the Heralds against Galactus in a scenario where they turn on him. As a fan of the Galactus mythos, these are the figs I’m most excited to see come out of this set.

There are lots of noteworthy individual figs in the set, too. Dr. Strange will be represented as a member of the Defenders, I believe, but I really want him for my Midnight Sons set. He also comes with a mechanic that I’m eager to try, where there are Astral Dr. Strange figs that he can summon into a battle.

I’m a new Nova fan. I discovered him during the Annihilation story arc, so I picked up some of his comics and they’re really good so far. Plus he was once a New Warrior, and that’s a set I’m piecing together.

My nephew likes his villains, and the bigger and badder the better, so Dr. Doom or Thanos would be nice as well. Thanos and Mistress Death would be fun to pit against the Infinity Watch for a nice 600 point match. I’ll be trying to trade for a Dormammu colossal at some point too, I’m sure. My Midnight Sons will need someone to beat up on until they finally give us a supernatural themed set.

So that’s me getting geek-excited over the latest HeroClix set. I’m still working on the weekend’s battle report – I’ll likely break that up into two posts, and I’ll post pics of my pulls as soon as my boosters get here, so stay tuned Clix fans!
